The Text Reader is a free, browser-based text to speech reader that turns written text into spoken audio instantly. Whether you want to proofread an article by ear, rest your eyes, practice pronunciation in another language, or multitask while listening, you can paste your text, pick a voice, and have it read aloud in seconds.

How it reads text aloud

The tool uses the Web Speech API built into modern browsers. When you press play, your text is broken into natural sentences and sent to your device's speech engine, which voices it using the language and voice you selected. Because everything runs locally, there is nothing to install and your text stays private.

Languages and voices

You can read text aloud in many languages, limited only by the voices installed on your device. Choose a language to filter the voice list, then pick the specific voice that sounds best to you. Adjust speed for faster or slower reading, and fine-tune pitch and volume for comfortable listening.

Reading along with highlighting

As the reader speaks, the current word is highlighted and the view scrolls to keep it in sight, so you can follow along easily. This makes the tool useful for language learning, accessibility, and reviewing long documents without losing your place.

Privacy first

Your text is never uploaded, stored, or sent to any server. Uploaded .txt files are read directly in the browser. Once the page has loaded you can even use the reader offline.
